White House Mishaps July 13, 2010

I got this comment a while back and just now really noticed it…

From Miss M:

Well,

First, I do not think First Lady Obama has any fashion sense…fashion mishaps, yes! Her clothes are for 20 year olds not a 45 year old mother of 2. Where are the pantyhose? She is no longer dressing for herself but representing the United States of America to the world. That hideous green dress was awful with the forest green Jimmy Choos and the JCrew gloves. Three greens don’t make it right.

And no, she will never be a Jackie O or in her league. Jackie O had style and class….Michelle lacks both. The white inaugural gown was awful……again, appropriate for a 20 year old not a 45 year old. She can be stylish and classic but so far……she is receiving a failing grade. Let’s hope someone step in and intervene soon or the world will be laughing at the First Lady!

My response.   Ladies and gentlemen please hold your applause until the end!!

There may be a lot of mishaps happening at the White House but it’s certainly not fashion related. Pantyhose?? Really??? No…no…no…no pantyhose allowed unless it is freezing cold and you’re wearing pumps or boots. Fashion is no longer what it used to be. The rules our mothers lived by no longer apply. I think it’s very refreshing to see women/mothers trying to dress like they still give a crap about what the men in their life think…more importantly what THEY think about themselves. GONE are the days of frumpy mom who always smells like baby lotion! GONE I say!! Mom’s today are more FABULOUS than ever before! Give me a mom in skinny jeans chunky boots and loads of bracelets with a dash of the newest Juicy Couture perfume!! Since when can Michelle Obama NOT dress for herself??? That’s absurd. If she’s not being herself then she’s not representing America because that’s who WE THE PEOPLE are. We are individuals, with different styles and quirks. Our individuality is what sets us apart and I think she represents us well…fashionably speaking! My ears are perked up but I hear no laughing yet Miss M.

Fabulous Fashion Advice: Michelle Obama’s Inaugural gown!!! January 21, 2009

SHE LOOKS FABULOUS!!!  I don’t know yet who the designer is but it’s GORGEOUS!!  It’s a cream, long, greacian inspired, one shouldered, with what looks like feathers and beautiful rhinestones/crystals!!  Absolutely ravishing!  President Obama is wearing a black, two button tux with a cream shirt and cream bowtie.  They look stunning!!!  Welcome to the World Mr. President and First Lady!!  Welcome to the world!

Fabulous Fashion Advice: Manis and Pedis! June 28, 2008

SO…I’m sure a lot of you already know this but some of you might not.  Manicures and Pedicures are lifesavers, even if you do them yourself at home!  For a long time I had to wear fake nails on my hands because I chewed my fingernails SOO bad.  One day I just stopped…I went and bought Sally Hansen Hard As Nails and haven’t been the same since.  Now I don’t like to keep mine really long, but they are long enough that it doesn’t look like Hannibal has been eating on me!  On my fingernails I usually just wear the Hard As Nails and that’s it.  I like a real clean, natural look.  As far as my toenails…I usually do hot pink.  It’s so important for you to really GET how important it is to keep yourself well manicured.  Who in their right mind wants to see some girl without her toenails painted lookin all nasty in a pair of sandals?  They can be CHANEL sandals and it ain’t gonna matter…it will still look like trash!  If you can’t afford to go and have it done at a nail salon go to WalMart and get a mani and pedi kit.  There is NO EXCUSE for not having well maintained nails!!  Think about it…you’re on a hot date or better yet…you’re at your sweetheart’s house (this STILL APPLIES even if you’ve been married for 25 years!!!) and you start getting cozy on the couch and you take your shoes off and you have NASTY toenails…talk about spoiling the mood.  He ain’t gonna want your trash, nasty, stinky feet on him!!!  So save yourself the embarrassment and take care of your hands and feet.  Also, always use lotion on your elbows, arms, hands and legs right before you go out on a date…just DON’T put any on your feet because you will be slipping and sliding all over the place in you heels!  This also applies to you guys out there…now don’t do pink toenails polish of course…but keep yourself well manicured.  We girls don’t want your nasty feet rubbing on us either!!  REMEMBER…BE FABULOUS!!!

Fabulous Fashion Advice: Shoes! June 27, 2008

SO…Let’s talk shoes.  Everyone knows women LOVE shoes.  I have an addiction to anything that’s sky high, I’m talking Dolly Parton heels.  I wouldn’t give $50 for a pair of Coach sneakers, but I have been known to spend well over $1200 for one pair of Fabulous Louis Vuitton swarovski crystal detailed evening sandals.  Here’s how over the top I am, Saks Fifth Avenue, only one of the BEST high end department stores ever…second only to the one and only Bergdorf Goodman, they were having a huge sale on shoes.  Generally speaking I can NEVER find anything on a sale rack.  I’m just not a bargain shopper, without even knowing it my eye will go straight to the MOST expensive thing on the rack or shelf.  Well this particular day I found the MOST AMAZING shoes ever created.  The are Chanel champagne high heeled sandals with the biggest faux diamond you have ever seen on a shoe…it’s amazing.  I wore them to an event that I had to perform in front of 20,000 people in a huge arena and I had people coming up to me asking me if I had a flashlight on my foot because of the light that had reflected from the diamond.  They were 40% off…I got them for $900.  Talk about a deal!!!  They are so extreme and beyond fabulous.  It wasn’t a month later and I saw Star Jones, former View co-host, with them on in black.  That’s how you know you’ve got style.  If you can buy an item and the next month or week or day you see it on a celebrity or in a magazine.  This has happened to me on more than one occasion.  I bought a brown wool 40’s inspired outfit at Ralph Lauren and the very next month it was a featured piece in Vogue.  I was watching the Miss America pageant a couple of years ago and the next thing I knew out walked Miss California in a skirt I had JUST bought the week before.  I could go on and on and on.   Back on to shoes…I will spend a fortune on great shoes…I’m not talking payless (not that there is anything wrong with payless), I’m talking Chanel, Stuart Weitzman, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Betsey Johnson, who by the way has the HIGHEST heels on the market (without looking like a stripper).  However, when it comes to casual shoes for everyday…$2 China Town slippers.  I am so not kidding.  They are lifesavers.  They are so cheap you can buy 30 pairs at a time and throw them away when you’re done.  Comfortable isn’t even in it, they are wonderful.  If I’m not wearing heels you can bet I’ve got on my china town shoes.  Whether you’re in Diamond encrusted Chanel heels or China Town slippers…REMEMBER…BE FABULOUS!!!

Fabulous Fashion Advice: Bras June 25, 2008

SO…I have the HARDEST time finding a great bra.  I just do.  I can’t go to target and buy those cute little ones with green polka dots and pink straps…trust me…I wish I could.  But the fact is they just don’t make them in my size.  Can you say Pam Anderson?  Ok…not that bad…but still!  So I usually do all of my undergarment/lingerie/whatever you want to call it shopping at Victoria’s Secret!  I love that store.  Now I do get frustrated with them sometimes because they make some of the MOST FABULOUS bras with sparkles and all this glamorous stuff on them….but they don’t make them in my size ARGGG!!!  But I have found the BEST bra there.  They just came out with it a couple of months ago and it is FABULOUS!!!!  It’s the Angels collection and I think it’s called “Dream Angels with memory foam”…so think Temperpedic mattress in a bra!!  I’m telling you it’s freakin awesome!  I LOVE IT!!!  They have two different styles.  Style One is just the fabric with a little lace on the outside edges of the cup and the underarm straps are lace.  Style Two has lace all over it.    Which is really beautiful.  I have the non-lace one in white and teal, and I have the lace one in black with nude underlay, hot pink, whisper pink and white.  I can’t tell you how much I love them.  You can actually buy the all over lace ones a size smaller and they will fit like a glove!  You should go and buy one today and see how you like it.  If you don’t like it send it to me…just buy it in a 34 D!!!!  Seriously though…you really do need to invest in a good undergarment wardrobe.  It will save your life in years to come…you don’t want boobs that you can throw over your shoulder when you’re 65!!!  A great bra can help prevent that.  So there’s my fabulous fashion advice for today…go buy a Victoria’s Secret Dream Angels Memory Foam Bra today!!!!!  REMEMBER…BE FABULOUS!!!

Fabulous Fashion Advice: JCPENNY Sex ad!

SO…Normally I don’t post twice in one day but I just saw the new ad for JCPenny.  I RARELY shop there…it’s probably been at least 10 years since I’ve bought anything from them, but you can rest assured that I will DEFINITELY NOT be shopping there ANYTIME in the future.  I just saw their new ad.  Ok…I get that sex sells.  I understand that…and to an ADULT audience that’s fine…but to specifically target young people who have NO business being sold on sex…that’s NOT fabulous!  Kids these days have sex on the brain enough without JCPenny jumping on the band wagon!  In their new ad it shows this boy and girl in their respective homes undressing and dressing…they are timing themselves to see how quickly they can get into and out of their clothes.  The next thing you see is the boy coming over to the girls house…they proceed to tell her mom they are “going downstairs to watch tv”.  It is OBVIOUS that they are NOT going to watch tv…and if they hear her starting to suspect something…they’ve got the timing down to get back into their clothes without her knowing what’s been going on.  This is just NOT fabulous!!  I’ve recently seen ads on tv about teen abstinence and I think that is great.  It would help stop a lot of STDs and unwanted teen pregnancies.  So for JCPenny…JCPENNY…come on!!…to start selling sex to our young people…it’s just ridiculous!!!  NOT FABULOUS!!  BOOOOO JCPENNY!!!  The safest sex is the kind you don’t have!!  REMEMBER…BE FABULOUS!!!

Fabulous Fashion Advice: What is that smell? June 24, 2008

So…let’s talk perfume. I LOVE perfume. All different kinds…I love it all! What’s important to remember about perfume is that while you do want to smell good…you don’t want to smell overwhelming. My uncle would put so much on that you could smell him before you saw him! That’s not a good thing. I usually put a spritz behind both ears…on my neck, on my wrists, (if I’m wearing a shorter dress) in the bend of my knee, and on my clothes. Now I know there are people out there that will say not to put it on your clothes…but I have to tell you that I do it all the time. It really does help to keep the fragrance alive…everytime you move that smell is jumbled up and will release a new little puff I guess you could say. Anyway, I do it and I love it! Right now I’m wearing Deseo by J. Lo, Ed Hardy, and Fabulosity by the FABULOUS Kimora Lee Simmons! I tend to mix perfumes together. I find that it creates a unique scent and is often better than one product alone. Just don’t go overboard. My favorite and the kind I bring out for special occasions only is Clive Christian. His products range from $100-10,000 a bottle. No one can touch this fragrance…it’s the epitome of Fabulous! I have the 1872 product and LOVE it! I also like Envy Me by Gucci, Rose by Bulgari, Chance by Chanel, I could go on and on. I love it! A lot of people say you should have a signature scent…one that you wear all the time…can you say BORING!!! I can’t do that. I’ll wear a fragrance for 2-3 months and then I HAVE to change it up. Be unexpected! But above all…REMEMBER…BE FABULOUS!!!

Fabulous Fashion Advice: Panty hose and open toed shoes! June 23, 2008

SO…Panty hose and open toed shoes…DO NOT GO TOGETHER!!!!  I don’t care if they are nude colored…DO NOT DO IT!!!  It looks ridiculous and anyone with any kind of fashion sense at all knows this and will…I promise…laugh at you.  The whole purpose of an open toed shoes is for people to see your legs and toes…it’s ok, you don’t have to cover them up.  The only time you need to wear panty hose is when you are wearing CLOSED toed shoes…and even then you don’t HAVE to wear them.  I prefer not to…even in winter, but I just don’t like panty hose…they are too constricting.  I prefer thigh highs, and you can get a great pair at Victoria’s Secret.  They also have great garters for keeping them up!!  Talk about sexy…I have a pair of hot pink garters…I LOVE THEM!!!  So that’s my fashion RULE for today…NO PANTY HOSE WHEN WEARING OPEN TOED SHOES!!!  REMEMBER…BE FABULOUS!!!

Fabulous Fashion Advice: Get some manners! June 21, 2008

SO…this post isn’t really about fashion but it is most definitely about being fabulous! I got up this morning and got to thinking about what exactly being fabulous entails. Of course I thought of the fashion aspect first but then my mind also wandered. Being Fabulous isn’t just about looking great. To truly BE fabulous you should also have tact, kindness, gentleness, compassion and good manners…scratch that…GREAT manners. You know I’ve been dating the love of my life for going on 6 months now and I ALWAYS thank him for buying my meals and whatever the entertainment of the night might be, if it’s a trip to the theater or a simple movie rental from Blockbuster. There just really are no excuses for bad manners…not if you’re going to be Fabulous! I mean lets just start with basics…if you aren’t saying please and thank you…then get to using those words. A lot of the manner thing is stuff that you would think would be common sense but I’m telling you I have met a ton of people that are clueless. You wouldn’t believe how many times I have seen women come out of the bathroom stall and go straight out the door… HELLO!!!! WASH YOUR HANDS! That’s just gross! It is certainly not something a Fabulous person would do!  Also, thanking your waiter/waitress for their service. Everytime they come to fill up my drink I always thank them. It’s just the right thing to do.  Just because they are serving you doesn’t mean they are your slave. You know the old saying “You catch more flies with honey than vinegar”…well I completely believe that…but I think that the motivation can be wrong sometimes. If you aren’t being nice (the honey part) to that person because you feel like it or because you genuinely want to, then you are just being a fake. Now I understand that there are some circumstances that you have to MAKE yourself be nice to someone…I get that…and that’s fine.  But if you find yourself more times than not, being nice to someone just to get something…you need to get a handle on it and humble yourself. I heard this story once of these two Divas that were going to be performing on the same night in the same venue…and one of them wrote in her contract that the building would have to put in new duct work and vents and air units on her side of the building because she didn’t want to breathe in the same air as the other Diva.  All I could think when I heard that story was…what a jerk!  I also heard of this male rapper who only wanted green skittles so the people had to go through all these skittle bags to pick out the green ones.  How stupid is that?   It’s ridiculous and it’s NOT anywhere close to Fabulous!   Just because you are Fabulous doesn’t mean that everyone is your slave, and it doesn’t mean that you get your way all the time.  That’s NOT what being fabulous is about.   There is a great book that Kate Spade put out a couple of years ago called MANNERS.  I think everyone should have this book.  It’s Fabulous.  It gives great advice…some of it is things you wouldn’t have even thought about before.  So just consider these things.  REMEMBER…BE FABULOUS!!!

Fabulous Fashion Advice: Put a little paint on the barn! June 20, 2008

SO…I do believe that there are “natural” beauties…the problem is that 90% of people that think they are one of them…actually aren’t.  Put a little paint on the barn.  You don’t have to go overboard but you do need to have a good base to even out your skin tones.  Be sure to use a good concealer and a great foundation.  I recommend MAC products.  All of my makeup products are MAC with the exception of my mascara which is Loreal and my lip stick/tinted chapstick which is the Savannah Bee Company.  You also need to invest in a good set of makeup brushes.  They really do make a difference in how the makeup stays on.  If you don’t want to do a lot of makeup just add a light shadow and brown mascara and lip gloss with a little blush.  If I’m going out I go ALL out.  I love dark shadows and tons of mascara.  Think Hollywood, celebrity, glamazon eyes.  Just a side note…blue eye shadow…doesn’t work, EVER.   The best thing to do with makeup is not to follow a trend.  It would have to be a pretty big trend for me to follow it.  I would rather have a very classic look so that when I look at pics 10 years from now I won’t look completely ridiculous!  So that’s my advice to you…put a little paint on the barn but don’t go over board and paint it neon pink!  REMEMBER…BE FABULOUS!!!!
